Crack detection
With FOERSTER testing systems, both semi-finished products and individual components can be tested for different surface defects without damage. Depending on the type of fault to be determined - point, longitudinal or transverse cracks - and depending on the material to be tested, different test devices are used. These are based on different technologies, such as the eddy current method, flux leakage testing, or heat flow thermography. Mobile crack detection testers can also be used for maintenance testing.
Below you will find an overview of the various systems and testing devices from FOERSTER for crack detection.
CIRCOFLUX: The CIRCOFLUX tests by means of an AC flux leakage method to detect longitudinal surface defects. The CIRCOFLUX is used mainly for hot rolled black bar , since in the case of an eddy current test, in contrast to the alternating field leakage method, too many interfering signals would arise due to the rough material surface.
CIRCOGRAPH: With the aid of the CIRCOGRAPH test instruments, longitudinal defects can be reliably detected on the surface of the material. The rotating probes of the CIRCOGRAPH scan the material surface without contact using eddy current technology.
DEFECTOMAT: The DEFECTOMAT product family inspects semi-finished products for point and transverse defects in the material. The optional FERROMAT channel allows FE contamination to be detected. Dedicated coils are available depending on the testing task.
DEFECTOMETER: The mobile DEFECTOMETER testing device is used for manual maintenance testing. It can even detect cracks of only 20 µm in depth.
DEFECTOSCOP: The computer-aided DEFECTOSCOP testing device for universal use is utilized for mobile maintenance testing of electrically conductive materials for cracks and microstructure.
DEFECTOVISION: The DEFECTOVISION testing system works with heat flow thermography. By analyzing the temperature distribution, it can detect and visualize the finest surface defects, for example, in the case of billets and rails.
NDT COMBICELL: The NDT COMBICELL is a hybrid test system with automatic part handling for non-destructive testing of components with complex geometries.
ROTOMAT / TRANSOMAT: The ROTOMAT and TRANSOMAT testing systems were specially developed for tubes with large diameters and test the inside and outside of tubes for surface defects using the constant field magnetic flux leakage method.
ROTO-PUSH / ROTO-SCAN: ROTO-PUSH and ROTO-SCAN are fully automatic test mechanisms for testing cylindrical components or rings for cracks and microstructure using the eddy current method. The components are then sorted and separated.
STATOGRAPH: The STATOGRAPH testing devices were developed for automatic crack detection on components using the eddy current method. A wide variety of different sensors are available to suit the different testing tasks.
